Building cardboard and duct tape boats is a big hit with the junior high kids, but it isn't just fun and games at the pool. Teachers Ms. Barth, Ms. Haigh, Mrs. Rohner, and Ms. Spitzer-Tjelde, spent the first two days of school teaching students about the concepts of density, buoyancy, the center of gravity, and Archimede's Principle. Students then had approximately eight class periods to design and construct their boats before testing them at the pool. This was the first year that the administration and teachers also built a boat.
The students and teachers would like to give a HUGE shoutout to the City of Fairview for their use of the pool, for providing a lifeguard, and for bringing the dump truck to the pool!
